Deicide é uma banda de Death Metal que surgiu em Tampa na Florida (USA), o significado do seu nome "O ato de matar um ser de natureza divina; particularmente cruxificar Jesus Cristo". A palavra pode significar também "Aquele que tem interesse em matar Cristo".A banda foi originalmente chamado de Amon, e gravou dois demos com este nome, que foram posteriormente lançado em CD como "Amon -. Feasting The Beast" Eles mudaram o nome para Deicide no final de 1989, pouco antes da gravação do álbum de estréia auto-intitulado. Isto foi feito por insistência de sua então gravadora, Roadrunner Records, porque havia uma música chamada "Amon" Belongs to "Them" do the King Diamond.
