Slayer é uma banda de thrash metal formada nos Estados Unidos da América. Começou a ser formada em 1981 pelos guitarristas Kerry King e Jeff Hanneman, que juntos a Tom Araya, baixista, e ao baterista Dave Lombardo, fundaram o que seria uma das bandas pioneiras no thrash metal mundial. A origem de seu nome pode ser traduzida como “carrasco” ou “matador” e foi baseado em um filme chamado Dragon Slayer. Lançou seu primeiro álbum no ano de 1983, “Show No Mercy”. A banda é considerada umas das pioneiras do thrash metal, junto com Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus e Metallica.
