Obscura foi fundada em 2003 por Steffen Kummerer (vocal e guitarra). Atualemente, a banda conta com músicos consagrados, como o baixista Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-Pestilence), o guitarrista Christian Muenzner (ex-Necrophagist) e o baterista Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist).
